9-Aminocamptothecin is a water-insoluble camptothecin derivative that inhibits topoisomerase I. Its broad antitumor activity is associated with disruption of DNA synthesis, induction of DNA breaks, and promotion of apoptosis or cell death. It is also a metabolite of 9-nitrocamptothecin.
