Mal-PEG2-COOH, also called Mal-PEG2-acid, is a PEG derivative bearing a maleimide group at one end and a carboxylic acid group at the other. The maleimide reacts selectively with thiol groups through Michael addition, forming stable thioether linkages for conjugation to proteins, peptides and other thiol-containing molecules.
The carboxylic acid offers a separate site for chemical modification. Activation with coupling reagents such as EDC or HATU enables amide bond formation with amino-containing molecules, providing complementary coupling chemistry within the same PEG derivative.
