C15:0 L-carnitine, HCl salt exhibits cannabinoid receptor agonist activity, with EC50s of 3.7 and 3.2 µM for CB1 and CB2, respectively, in a cAMP modulation assay. It also acts as an agonist at serotonin receptors 5-HT1A and 5-HT1B, with respective EC50s of 9.6 and 9.3 µM, and as an antagonist at histamine H1 and H2 receptors, with respective EC50s of 10.9 and 6.1 µM.
In primary human cell systems, it inhibits T cell proliferation in an SAg system and reduces chemokine (C-C) motif ligand 2 (CCL2) levels in an Mphg system. It is cataloged in the carnitine subgroup of cationic lipids.
