DSPE-MAL is a thiol-reactive phospholipid containing a maleimide group and two saturated fatty acids. It can self-assemble into lipid bilayers in water and is used to prepare liposomes as drug nanocarriers. Its maleimide group reacts with cysteine or other thiol-containing molecules for bioconjugation.
