Fludarabine is a purine nucleoside derivative listed among fluoro-modified nucleosides for nucleic acid chemistry. It disrupts ribonucleotide reductase and DNA polymerase in blood cells and exhibits antiproliferative activity (IC50 = 1.54 μM in RPMI cells). Its apoptosis-inducing activity is associated with increased Bax expression and decreased Bid, XIAP, and survivin expression. Anticancer activity against human hematological malignancies has also been reported in vivo.
