N-C24:1-deoxysphinganine is an atypical, very long-chain ceramide with a 1-deoxysphinganine (m18:0) backbone. The 1-deoxysphingolipid class arises during sphingolipid synthesis when serine palmitoyltransferase uses alanine rather than serine in condensation with palmitoyl-CoA.
This compound has been identified as a major 1-deoxyceramide species in mouse embryonic fibroblasts (MEFs) following treatment with 1-deoxysphinganine alkyne. It is listed in the N-Deoxysphinganine section of the sphingolipid catalog and has the molecular formula C42H83NO2.
