mPEG-SH is a linear, monofunctional methoxy PEG with a free terminal thiol group. Also known as mPEG-Thiol or SH-mPEG, it reacts with maleimide groups and interacts with metal surfaces, including gold and silver. These properties support its use in modifying gold or silver nanoparticles.
Exposure to air can oxidize the thiol groups, forming dimers linked by S-S disulfide bonds; reducing agents can reverse this process. This polymer PEG derivative is listed with a purity of ≥95%.
