8-Bromoadenosine is an adenosine-related compound cataloged under halo-modified nucleosides for nucleic acid chemistry. It has been reported to inhibit guanine nucleotide-binding proteins and to exhibit biological activity in vitro. Reported effects include reductions in mitochondrial membrane potential and cytosolic Ca2+, inhibition of RNA and protein synthesis, reduced leukemia inhibitory factor (LIF) production by 3T3-L1 preadipocytes, and induction of apoptosis in T84 cells.
