Mal-PEG-OH is a linear heterobifunctional PEG reagent with a maleimide group at one end and a hydroxyl group at the other. The maleimide reacts with thiol-containing molecules or surfaces through Michael addition to form stable thioether linkages, while the hydroxyl group can react with carboxylic acids to form ester bonds.
This polymer PEG reagent can serve as a crosslinking reagent or as a precursor to PEGylated block copolymers, including PLA-PEG and PCL-PEG, through hydroxyl-initiated polymerization with lactide or caprolactone. Its listed purity is ≥95%.
