DMPC is a phosphatidylcholine phospholipid containing two myristic acid (14:0) chains attached to a glycerol-based structure with a phosphate-containing head group. In water, it can organize into lipid bilayers, with the hydrophobic tails directed inward and the hydrophilic heads exposed to the surrounding water. It can be used to prepare liposomes or nanoparticles for research into therapeutic delivery, including mRNA/DNA vaccine carriers.
