Azido-PEG8-Maleimide Kit supplies two vials for preparing an azide- and maleimide-functional PEG linker in situ. Because the resulting linker is not stable for storage, it is prepared by mixing Azido-PEG8-amine with Maleimide-NHS ester and shaking or stirring for 30 minutes at room temperature.
The maleimide group forms a covalent bond with thiol groups, allowing attachment to thiol-bearing biomolecules, while the azide group supports click chemistry reactions. The kit is listed for storage at -20°C; this condition does not replace the requirement to prepare the linker in situ.
