Mal-PEG-SC, also listed as Mal-PEG-NHS and Maleimide-PEG-NHS, is a heterobifunctional PEG derivative with maleimide and NHS ester groups at opposite ends of a PEG spacer. The maleimide reacts with thiol groups to form thioether bonds, while the NHS ester reacts with primary amines to form amide bonds.
These complementary reactive groups support biomolecule conjugation, protein labeling and crosslinking, and nanoparticle surface modification. Other research applications include antibody–drug conjugate construction, biosensor development, and hydrogel formation.
