Daunorubicin HCl is an anthracycline antibiotic and topoisomerase II inhibitor that interferes with DNA and RNA synthesis and can induce apoptosis and necrosis in cancer cells. It is used in oncology research involving leukemia, non-Hodgkin lymphomas, and sarcomas, and is cataloged in the ADC payload category. In mature AML cells, its reported signaling effects involve a reactive oxygen species–dependent sphingomyelin-ceramide pathway, activation of the MEKK1-SEK1-JNK cascade, and increased AP-1 transcription.
