Dehydrocholic Acid is a semisynthetic bile acid derived from cholic acid. It reduces phospholipid, cholesterol, and bilirubin concentrations while having little effect on bile acid levels. Bile flow increases relative to bile acid excretion, suggesting hydrocholeretic activity of its hydroxy keto metabolites. The cholesterol-to-lecithin and bile acid ratio remains largely unchanged. Its molecular formula is C24H34O5, and its listed molecular weight is 402.5.
