NH2-PEG3-CH2CH2COOtBu is a monodisperse, heterobifunctional PEG linker with an amino group and a tert-butyl-protected carboxyl group. The PEG spacer contributes hydrophilicity and increases solubility in aqueous media. The amino terminus can react with carboxylic acids, activated NHS esters, and carbonyl compounds such as ketones and aldehydes. Acidic conditions can remove the tert-butyl protection to expose the carboxyl group for subsequent chemistry.
