16-(Amine-PEG3-ethylcarbamoyl)pentadecanoic-t-butyl ester is a hybrid PEG–aliphatic linker with an amine group and an alkane tail terminating in a t-butyl ester. The amine can react with carboxylic acids, activated NHS esters, ketones and aldehydes, while acidic conditions allow removal of the t-butyl protecting group.
The compound can spontaneously form micelles in water and may serve as a starting material for more complex lipids used in drug-delivery nanoparticles.
