Mal-amido-PEG2-acid combines a maleimide group and a terminal carboxylic acid through a hydrophilic PEG spacer that increases solubility in aqueous media. These functional groups provide distinct sites for covalent conjugation.
The carboxylic acid couples with primary amines in the presence of activators such as EDC or HATU to produce a stable amide bond. The maleimide reacts with thiol groups, allowing attachment to thiol-bearing biomolecules. This reagent belongs to the maleimide PEG linker family.
